The NRA FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation is a hands-on introduction designed to provide a quick, personalized orientation to the safe handling and proper operation of one specific single-action revolver model. Emphasizing a “learning by doing” philosophy, this compact course offers a welcoming, low-pressure environment perfect for new firearm owners looking to become immediately comfortable with their own revolver.
Topics covered:
- Safety & Handling: Basics of revolver safe handling, the “load-one, skip-one” safety practice (if applicable to older models), and secure firearm storage.
- Knowing Your Pistol: Specific single-action revolver parts (including the loading gate, hammer notches, cylinder, and ejector rod assembly), how your exact model works, and safe mechanical operation.
- Ammunition Fundamentals: Understanding the correct ammunition and caliber for your specific revolver.
- Building Shooting Skills: The basic fundamentals of pistol shooting using the Benchrest position.
- Maintenance & Selection: Detailed guide to cleaning and maintaining your specific single-action revolver, including how to safely remove the cylinder for cleaning.
- Live-Fire Range Time: Practical shooting development and safe range procedures.

NO LIVE AMMO IN THE CLASSROOM. Please bring your cased, unloaded single-action revolver, its owner’s manual, and 50 rounds of matching ammunition (leave ammo in your vehicle until range time).
