The NRA FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation is a hands-on introduction designed to provide a quick, personalized orientation to the safe handling and proper operation of one specific double-action revolver model. Emphasizing a “learning by doing” philosophy, this compact course offers a welcoming, low-pressure environment perfect for new firearm owners looking to become immediately comfortable with their own revolver.
Topics covered:
- Safety & Handling: Basics of revolver safe handling, the absolute rules of gun safety, and secure firearm storage.
- Knowing Your Pistol: Specific double-action revolver parts (including the cylinder release latch, swing-out cylinder, crane, and extractor rod), understanding both single-action and double-action trigger operation, and safe mechanical function.
- Ammunition Fundamentals: Understanding the correct ammunition, caliber markings, and proper cartridge selection for your specific revolver.
- Building Shooting Skills: The basic fundamentals of pistol shooting using the Benchrest position.
- Maintenance & Selection: Detailed guide to safely opening, cleaning, and maintaining your specific double-action revolver, including proper carbon removal from the cylinder face and forcing cone.
- Live-Fire Range Time: Practical shooting development and safe range procedures.

NO LIVE AMMO IN THE CLASSROOM. Please bring your cased, unloaded double-action revolver, its owner’s manual, and 50 rounds of matching ammunition (leave ammo in your vehicle until range time).
